RU58841 is a specific androgen receptor antagonist or a so called anti-androgen. This non steroidal topical androgen antagonist was investigated for therapeutic value in androgenetic alopecia and acne. In studies and clinical trials RU58841 has shown to:

Strongly compete against DHT
Increase cellular replication rate in the matrix cells
Increase cellular proliferation of outer root sheeth cells
Increase hair diameter and hair density
Increase the percentage of hair in the anagen phase
Provide equivalent or better net growth than Finasteride

RU58841 works by binding to the androgen receptor in the hair follicle. Therefore androgens don’t have the chance to bind and start the chain reaction of androgenetic alopecia and begin the so called miniaturization process. It has been demonstrated to interrupt this hair loss message locally so that normal hair growth could continue.

Topical RU58841 has a very short half-life (1 hr) in comparison to the oral ingestion of Finasteride (6 hrs) and Dutasteride (5 weeks!). Moreover, RU58841 does not inhibit DHT production like the latter two products.  These facts seem to suggest that there is minimal chance of any serious or permanent side effects, and anecdotal evidence on the forums seems to support that. Treatment Of Enlarged Prostate Gland

Finasteride (Proscar) is a very potent type II 5a-reductase inhibitor, which prevents conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a sex hormone. In addition, it is used for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is the enlargement of the prostate.

Finasteride inhibits 4a-reductase, and as mentioned, will prevent testosterone conversion to DHT. Dutasteride (trademark name Avodart) is a dual 5-α reductase inhibitor that inhibits conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Used for benign prostatic hyperplasia; however, it increases the risk of erectile dysfunction and decreased sexual desire.

Dutasteride is useful for the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH); colloquially known as an "enlarged prostate". In those who are being regularly screened 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor (finasteride and dutasteride) reduce the overall risk of being diagnosed with prostate cancer however there is insufficient data to determine if they have an effect on the risk of death and may increase the chance of more serious cases.

When bodybuilders use anabolic-androgenic steroids, it can speed up head hair loss. This is due to increased testosterone hormones in the body.
